Is this the first thing that the subagent tries to register, or are there other (successful) registrations first? It looks as if the subagent is processing a response to the callback request when it falls over. Try turning on packet dumps (either in the subagent or the master agent). What is the last pair of packets that gets sent/received before the crash?
