question on proxy agent

Hi -

We are considering making one agent a proxy for other agents.  I read the
documentation and have a few questions.

1) If the proxy is not being configured from the command line, is there an
API for setting it up?

2) What happens if the proxy agent fails - is there some kind of
auto-failover, or does the Admin have to detect that and reconfigure
another agent to act as the proxy?

3) Is there any additional documentation besides the info on the wiki a the
conf and examples doc?
