Just to give some context to what I am doing: basically, we are looking to use a cut-down version of the net-snmp agent code as one of many tasks running on an embedded platform. The platform has a number of interfaces, some of which (currently) cannot be controlled via SNMP. What I was trying to work out was the appropriate way of handling a (albeit not very sensible) request from an SNMP manager to set the ifAdminStatus of one of the 'notPresent' interfaces. Thanks again for your suggestions.
