handling inconsistent Database files

Hi, Are there any strategies in sqlite for avoiding Databases getting into an inconsistent state due to an application crash, system crash, etc. One scenario could be that my application is writing onto a DB file when the application crashes. When the application comes up next, it would most likely find the DB in an inconsistent state. Is there a way to overcome such problems?
