Well sorry for the late answer I tried to compile net-snmp with 5.4.2.1 with openssl 1.1.0a and got no problems. Testing with SHA and MD5 authentication worked just fine. (Encryption not tested however) I didn't try 5.6 or 5.5 with openssl 1.1.0a, I don't think there should be any problem though.
