The software will not, by design, modify *your* snmpd.conf files. That's a scary thing to ask it to do, so we don't do it. That being said, it will actually use a special snmpd.conf file as a "persistent storage" file, usually in /var/net-snmp/snmpd.conf. This is where SET operation information gets stored. But you don't want to put normal config there as it'll get overwritten. Generally information should either be: a) static configuration from your normal snmpd.conf b) dynamic configuration from a network manager.
