How to implement my own iteration methods for a MIB?

Hi, I would like to know how to iterate through my data elements without using helpers such as table_iterator, table_data_set, etc. I was able to do it with the old API's snmpd_register_config_handler(). I basically used the MIB2-Interfaces implementation as an example, creating a sequence of var_myEntry -> header_myEntry -> write_myElem. I receive the indexes in var_myEntry and then I decide how to fetch the data. However, I understand that this is very arcane code. Is there a way to do it with modern API functions such as netsnmp_create_handler_registration()?
