Convert SNMPv1 traps to SNMPv3

Hello everyone,

We have a requirement of SNMPv3 communications on our network. We have recently acquired some software from a vendor that currently only supports v1 traps. Until they can sort this out with their engineers I would like to see if there is a way we could use Net-SNMP to convert and relay their traps into SNMPv3. Their software is on a Linux server and can send traps to any IP address. My plan was to have it send to the loopback or some other secondary IP and have a Perl script receive the trap and recode it into V3 and send it to the final destination.

Is there any mechanism in Net-SNMP for this already? Has anyone seen such a program in the wild? Does anyone have a better solution?

Thanks for your comments!
