  -l    says  "include the following library when linking"

The libcrypto library seems to make use of routines found in the libdl library.
Which Kumar's environment wasn't picking up for some reason.
   We could really do with finding out why (and how to detect this, so the
-ldl flag can be added automatically when needed)
