exec directive support confusion

We are in the process of getting RHEL6 ready for use and have run into a
problem with exec support. However they've got 5.5 configured, exec
directives are not actually used. After digging through the source we
discovered that exec2 works in its place. However, it will be far
easier for us to migrate if we we can use all of the existing code and
configs. It's not clear to me what option should be passed into snmpd
at compile time to enable the old exec behavior. Any clues?
