questions about the pass-persist

HI,
I want to use pass persist to run a simple python program.

In the snmpd.conf, I add a line "pass_persist
.1.3.6.1.4.1.3231.101.5.1.101.0.1.0 python /work/snmp/persist_test.py".
Then I run "usr/local/sbin/snmpd -f -Le
-Ducd-snmp/pass_persist,ucd-snmp/pass,snmpd,output,helper:debug"

When Itry to get the OID in a manager. 
I got the following message "ucd-snmp/pass_persist:
open_persist_pipe(1,'python /work/snmp/persist_test.py')
ucd-snmp/pass_persist: open_persist_pipe: PONG not received!"

If I run 'python /work/snmp/persist_test.py' alone, it print out PONG no
problem.
Does the program get run in the snmpd ?
