No - clientAddr is the mechanism provided to support this functionality.
If this doesn't work, then the answer is to find out why it's broken and fix it.
There is absolutely no point in developing another alternative approach
and leaving the existing mechanism broken.

When you say "it doesn't work" - what happens?
