Net-SNMP Build Issues under RHEL 5.4, GCC version 4.1.2, and Net-SNMP version 5.3.2.2.

I am testing out a project which builds and executes without any form of
error under Fedora 16 using Net-SNMP v5.7.1 (gcc v4.6.2) on a legacy RHEL
5.4 platform, using Net-SNMP v5.3.2.2, gcc v4.1.2.

 

Using the exact same project, with the same IDE for the build (Qt Creator),
the project compiles but will not link with the Net-SNMP libraries.  The
paths to the libraries all look correct, opening

the source code in the IDE, and browsing the symbol links to the proper
header files, etc.

 

The Net-SNMP distribution as 5.3.2.2. is from the RHEL repository.

 

Does anyone have a similar experience?

 

I did a quick attempt at updating the RHEL Net-SNMP install using some
Fedora 14 RPMs, but this failed due to multiple dependency issues.

 

I am wondering if this is known build issue with a legacy OS like RHEL 5.4,
and whether an easier path to success would come from updating the snmp
binaries to a more recent version, 

perhaps updating the gcc tool chain, rebuilding the agent from source, etc.

 

Any thoughts from the community?
