Segment Fault Latest SNMPD on RHEL 6.3 from Init Script

I built and installed the latest Net-SNMP from source using the '--prefix=/usr' value during the configuration phase on the 64-bit RHEL 6 , followed
by make, and make install. I have not had this experience on either RHEL 5.4, or Fedora 16 using the same init script.

Unfortunately, I am unable to start snmpd as a daemon using the startup script listed below. This script differs a bit
from the one that is bundled with the Net-SNMP 5.7.1 distro. Which startup script one is correct for the RHEL 6 platform for the latest code base?

However, when I run the equivalent command from startup as root as follows, the daemon works correctly.

/usr/sbin/snmpd -LS0-6d -Lf /dev/null -p /var/run/snmpd.pid

When invoked from the script, I get a segmentation fault as follows

service snmpd start

[FAILED]

I have checked all the attributes on the script file, and they look correct.

If I wanted to pipe all output to the /var/log/snmpd.log file instead of the syslog, how would I change the passed arguments?

What are the advantages of performing the install to /usr/local rather than /usr?
