I need some SNMP clarification. Every example I find about creating an SNMP AgentX tells me little about the actual MIB to create from. I did find something about the syntax of an MIB file, but no tutorial/help to create one.

Have read the following tutorials on this subject:
http://www.net-snmp.org/wiki/index.php/TUT:Writing_a_MIB_Module
http://www.net-snmp.org/tutorial/tutorial-5/toolkit/mfd/
http://www.net-snmp.org/wiki/index.php/TUT:Writing_a_Subagent
These are not very detailed. Are there any other tutorials or perhaps books about this I can read? For something that is supposed to be simple I must say, it is not that simple when it comes to the actual development.

There is a mib2c utility one can use to create a MIB module from a MIB definition(file). This code must then be modified in order for it to work with an SNMP agent. What is not clear to me is how do I create the actual MIB definition(file)? Lets say I have a service/application with lots of information points/variables.These variables are arranged like a file tree. I have the name, type and description for each of these, so how do I proceed to create the MIB? For learning I could create such a MIB(for one variable) file myself manually, but eventually I need to autogenerate such a file since I have a lot of variables I want to be able to query via SNMP.

Is there any Free(OSS) applications that I could use to create an MIB, I then can use to create a MIB-module with mib2c?
