Question about writing table entries

What is the best way to write an entire entry to table? I am trying to implement a writeable logMatch table so that I can dynamically create logMatch entries without having to edit config files. I have no trouble implementing writes to objects that already exist, but I am stuck on how to implement methods to actually create a new entry. When I try to write a new object, a non-writeable error gets thrown since the new index doesn't exist.
