When you first posted, you said

and the code that you listed there doesn't look much like the standard
Net-SNMP agent.

Yes.
(As long as the agent is shut down cleanly - if it crashes, then this
may not happen
  or if it's is killed using "kill -9", then the syseadmin deserves
everything they get!)
