Cliff, A few months agoo a replied on a simular issue, but nobody has post a solution or a has reasonable explanation for it. See Original Message. Again if somebody has a solution i'm glad to now the answers !!! kind regards, Ludo -----Original Message----- From: Ludo Bosmans Sent: donderdag 18 juli 2002 10:40 To: 'Brad Johnson'; [email protected] Subject: RE: [netsaint-devel] Service check delay weridness Hi All, hi Brad, We monitor the main network components and critical server from a customer with netsaint 0.0.7 on a SuSe 7.1 Linux. There are no special services defined, only check-host alives and PING services. In total about 120 Host and/ or network devices. A few weeks ago the KPNQuest network went down and netsaint was sending out notifications as e-mail and sms's immediatly. Looking at the status detail, near all hosts and services were still in an OK state. However the allert and notification logs were filled up. Finally it took about two hours before everything turned red. I think it has someting two see with the way that netsaint is handling the results of the service checks. I tried to change some configuration values but still got simular results. In a normal situation netsaint was able to check all services within a minute. It seems that all checks were properly handled, notifications send,... but the treadment of the results take a long time before it is showed up in the webpage. In an other situation we had also a network outage. On certain ( blokked ) servers a lot of services were sheduled. In that situation i had exactly the situation you described in your message. In the performance info the 'check latency time' is increasing tremendious and finally it took also a very long time to recover. The problem with this kind issues is that there is no easy way to simulate or duplicate these situations certainly not in a running environment. Again as Brad's request, any ideas are welcome !!! I'm using netsaint 0.0.7 on FreeBSD Yesterday we had a network outage. A problem with our modem kept us from being notified for at least thirty minutes, so Netsaint had been dealing with a lot of down/unreachable systems for awhile. After restoring the outage, most of the systems Netsaint were monitoring recovered. However, many services were still showing up critical even though I could reach them manually. I went to each individual service and found that, for some reason, the next service check was scheduled for an hour and some twenty odd minutes after the last service check. This doesn't make any sense. I currently have a normal interval of 5 minutes, a retry interval of 1 minute, a max try times of 2, and all of my time interval settings at the default. Also, I noticed that the "Last state change" time was in the future!!! It was after the last check time. Any ideas what might be causing this? I dug through source with no further clues. I read a post that suggested enabling the "check for orphaned service checks" option, but I haven't had any other good leads. Hope someone can help me out. Netsaint/Nagios is a great product and I look forward to contributing anything I can.
