We are monitoring several AS/400 systems with netsaint/nagios.
For some servicechecks we are using the standard-plugins for monitoring
standard tcp services.
Since a couple of weeks we are also monitoring performance data. To get
the data you must first run SNMP on your AS/400. The second step is that
you find a tool which is able to fill the SNMP tables on your system.
Because we are also using the CCSS QSystems Monitor on the AS/400 we got a
special MIB from CCSS to find out the OID's we need. With this way we can
monitor all the performance data ( responsetime, CPU-Load, DISK-Load ....
)

Do you have SNMP on the AS/400? If so, you could use the check_snmp
plugin.
