Eliminating old comments

Hi Folks: We're running netsaint-0.0.7 with mysql support. Would their be any negative impact to netsaint if periodically we ran an SQL query from cron that would delete old comments? Would netsaint have to arbitrate those deletions for the consistency of mysql and netsaint to remain synced? I have to find a way to start eliminating old comments, we're literally swimming in them, and doing it by hand is becoming extremely time consuming...
