RE: Revisiting NT service monitoring

Ok.  To get the options on any of the plugins, just do a ./[plugin name]
--help  (e.g., ./check_nt --help ;for what it's worth).

If you're still using NetSaint, I don't think I can be of much help on the
syntax and location...I forget.  However, on Nagios, here is an entry in my
CheckCommands.cfg file:

# 'check-lanman' command definition
define command{
        command_name    check-lanman
        command_line    $USER1$/check_nt -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -v SERVICESTATE -l
lanmanserver
        }

Replace lanmanserver with spooler, and change the labels accordingly, and
you should have it.  Then you just setup an entry in the services.cfg to
check the server, and voila!

Your manual check is great, but our hosts.cfg file takes the form:

# host service[host]=service-to-check;various-numbers;check_service-to-check

In the above, for service[host], the word service is actually there.  Host
is replaced with the hostname of the machine we check.

So, for me, I tried:

service[our-nt-server]=combinations-of-spooler-and-service;numbers;check_nt
[then combinations of spooler and service, but kept getting errors.  At
times, Netsaint would not restart because check_nt needs an additional
service variable to know what to look for, and I don't know the check_nt
options.

Help here would be great.
