Perhaps you are running the embedded Perl Netsaint (ePN) and if so the
fact that check_load.pl is not suitable for ePN would explain what you
are seeing.

What is the other check that is failing ?

If the other is also a Perl script you could 

=> confirm that ePN is the problem by trying to run them using the
mini_epn something or other in contrib/

=> if so, recompile and reinstall Netsaint (spelled N-A-G-I-O-S these
days) and let the list know so the plugins can be fixed.

Otherwise, you will have to enable plugin debugging by either

1 Hacking the plugin to log its progress

2 Recompiling N with the configure switch that does plugin debug.
