NetTime and ntpd

Dear all,
forgive me if I'm slightly off topic, but you could possibly h=
elp me solving the
following problem.

I installed NetTime on my lapto=
p and it works great.
When my laptop is connected to our corporate WAN, =
I can sync the clock to the
time of NTP servers automatically discovered=
 (for example ntp0.nl.net located in
the Netherlands, since our access p=
oint to the Internet is a server located in
the Netherlands). This means=
 that our firewall is not filtering ntp packets
flowing between my lapto=
p and ntp0.nl.net.

So far so good.

I also have a linux box connecte=
d to our WAN and I'm trying to sync the linux
box's clock with the same =
server ntp0.nl.net: and it does not work.
The NTP server is marked as un=
reacheable.

While if I run NetTime as a Windows service on my laptop, =
acting as a time
server on its own, the linux box CAN sync using ntpd wi=
th my laptop's time: my
laptop is marked as a reachable time server.

So the question is: is there any difference between the protocol used by =
NetTime
and ntpd?
Can you figure out why a windows machine can sync wit=
h a remote NTP server using
NetTime, while a linux machine can not sync =
with the same remote NTP server?
