Accounting/stats w/o RADIUS?

I found pogozone's Accounting patch which may or may not (didn't look close
enough) do what I want, but it seems to depend on RADIUS which I'd rather
not implement.

Does anyone know if any accounting patch that would keep track of
sessions, logins, IPs, MACs, etc.?  Directed to a file would be fine;
DBI would be great.
