All,

This is a short article on OpenPegasus face to face meeting held in Bangalore recently. (picked up from an article that I created for HP)

[Description: Description: TeamAtHP_screenSize_2012_09_22_2225.jpg]The Open Pegasus (OP) team held a face to face meeting from 17th-28th September at HP and IBM premises. We had OP architecture team participating from IBM India, IBM Germany, the Open Group representative (USA) and HP India. The highlights were

* We had an "OP consumers/users meet" where we discussed release plans, features, issues faced, debugging providers and requirements from consumers. We had HP, IBM, Emulex and NetApp participate. This was a good experience and the minutes can be found at https://wiki.opengroup.org/pegasus-wiki/doku.php?id=architectureteam:user_meeting_wiki_page. We plan to do this more often.

* We had discussions and presentations on comparisons of SFCB and OP. Contrary to what is believed, OP is much faster and smaller when compared with SFCB. Added to that, OP has huge number of features which SFCB lacks, like security. OP community is more active than SFCB. See more at https://wiki.opengroup.org/pegasus-wiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=architectureteam:opandsfcb_comparison_20120927_930_slides.pdf

* We discussed our release plans, performance improvements, CIM V3, OP for embedded environments and many new features in these two weeks. We got to learn things like performance measurements, debugging tricks from the more experienced folks. Meeting minutes can be found on the wiki.

* OP is used by many products in HP (HP SIM etc.) and IBM (IBM Systems Director etc.) . We met the teams who use OP at both these companies.
We achieved what we could have discussed in maybe 6 months of weekly meetings and we discussed so many new ideas that could not have been done successfully over phone. Since we now know the team well, it will be more easy and fun to work with them. Having a face to face meeting is a real good idea for teams spread across the world.
