Generally we've allowed that for contrib modules.

We've done a few: back-sock enhancements in 2.4.47, for example, support 
for OpenSSL 1.1.0+ in 2.4.45, support for "nordahead" flag in 2.4.37 with 
back-mdb.  So it's your call.
