I see your point, but I do not see it as a valid argument to decline 
proposals for new TLDs: What is the problem if the TLD dies (most) 
probably after a few years?

I'm new to this mailing list (at least I'm post-flame-war), so excuse 
me if that was discussed before:

What is the blocker with TLS certificates? That there is no possibility to 
add per-TLD CAs (e.g. ones, that are not allowed to sign .com, ...)? That 
noone is willing to run such a(n intermediate) CA? That noone is willing 
to trust certificates of that CA? Or the whole principle of CAs in 
general?
