Welcome again to another installment of This Week in OpenNMS. Since my
blog is really about more my personal work on things in addition to
OpenNMS, it seemed like it was time to give it a real home, so TWiO now
lives on the OpenNMS.com web site. It's got it's own RSS feed, too, so
if you've been reading it at my blog, please update your links.

Project Updates
---------------

- Stable: Current Release is 1.6.2

1.6.2 is still the current release, and while there are a few fixes
pending since it's release, there are no immediate plans for a 1.6.3
just yet.

- Unstable: Current Release is 1.7.0

Trunk continues to undergo heavy development. I've said it before, but
it's still true: we're hoping to get 1.7.1 out soon. We're waiting to
hit the milestone of complete Capsd-replacement in Provisiond before
tagging 1.7.1. In the meantime, feel free to try the nightly snapshots
(if it's not on a production system, of course).

- Trunk: Provisiond Soldiers On

Provisiond work is continuing at a fast pace. We've spent more time
cleaning up code, optimizing performance, and working on finishing out
features. The foreign source editor is now more plugin-aware, and can
give you selector boxes for plugins that take an enumeration of values.

- Trunk: RANCID Integration

Antonio continues to tweak the RANCID integration, especially at the map
level. It's pretty usable in it's current incarnation, and is very slick
if you have any devices RANCID supports.

- Trunk: UI Enhancements

Donald continues to work on integrating nice enhancements to the UI with
Ext-JS. Drop-downs on a number of pages use a nice searchable interface
(like the KSC reports selector), and more tweaks are happening on the
new node page interface.

- Stable and Trunk: Platform Updates

The scripts for running OpenNMS are now aware of OpenJDK and Diablo on
*BSD. Newer builds of OpenJDK now run OpenNMS successfully -- I was able
to run OpenNMS on Fedora/PPC!

- Trunk: Ackd

Dave has picked up work on Ackd again; it's not ready for use yet, but
he's making good progress.

OpenNMS User Conference Europe 2009
-----------------------------------

The first OpenNMS user conference was a smashing success. We got a ton
of enthusiastic feedback on the event, and it sounds like things went
pretty smoothly.

I'm told that there was video taken of the presentations, but haven't
had a chance to track it down yet. I'll try to get everything together
and do a full writeup on the conference next week. In the meantime, feel
free to peruse Alex's pictures from the event.

Upcoming Events
---------------

(Note: April training has been pushed back to May.)

May 4th-8th, 2009: OpenNMS training will be available through The
OpenNMS Group at the OpenNMS training facility in Pittsboro, NC.

For more information on training, go to:

It's a Wrap
-----------

That's it for this week.

Don't forget, if you've done something cool with OpenNMS, or have a
topic you'd like me to talk about in TWiO, let us know! We'll put your
name in lights. And by lights, I mean the electron beam in people's
monitors, or the little LEDs in their LCD screens. I know it's not much,
but it's all I've got. ;)
