This will help: apt-get install sun-java6-bin

:-)

I suspect this can be changed but I guess when it finally gets to debian it would build with the usual tar + patches approach?

Damn, it doesn't like my openjdk-1.6:

configure: searching for a 1.5 jdk
configure: trying the value in JAVA_HOME
configure: checking if /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun is home for a valid 1.5 jdk checking if /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun has java... yes checking if /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun has javac... no
configure: no valid jdk found at /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun checking for java... /usr/bin/java
configure: attempting to find the jdk
for /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java.
configure: checking if /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre is home for a valid 1.5 jdk checking if /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre has java... yes checking if /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre has javac... no
configure: no valid jdk found at /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre
configure: error: unable to find a valid jdk for java version 1.5

I guess now is not the time to mention how much I dislike autotools?
