Enabling snmp interface data collection "en masse"

Hi gang,

I'd like to enable snmp interface data collection on a bunch of interfaces
(several hundreds).

I've tried updating the database directly with a command like the following:

opennms=# update snmpinterface set snmpcollect='C' where (nodeid=358 and
snmpcollect='N');
UPDATE 119

but for some reason the configuration did not persist after a server reboot.

I've now tried to set the snmpcollect attribute to "UC" in the hope it will
be more persistent, but I've no clue if that will help.

Can someone explain me why my initial attempt didn't survived a server
reboot? And, maybe shed some light on the meaning of the snmpcollect
attribute's possible values?

PS: I know that the "Matching SNMP Interface Policy" provisioning policy
can do such things, but atm I don't think it gives me enough granularity to
enable these data collections in a controllable manner: I'm afraid my disk
storage won't be able to handle the additional I/O load, and, as such, I
would like to enable these data collections per batch of about 100
interfaces, which doesn't seem possible with my setup using this
provisioning policy.
