Do you have OpenNMS and the PostgreSQL database running on the same server?

Add 127.0.0.1 as an interface of your OpenNMS server and assign the PostgreSQL service on the 127.0.0.1 interface and use the OPENNMS_JDBC_HOSTNAME parameter instead of localhost. This allows you also to monitor the internal performance metrics from OpenNMS itself via JMX.
