Re: v 21.0.0

I was able to delete remove the nodes from the GUI like before and I can see them disappearing from the database.

The problem is the requisition, it keeps coming back and then re-adding the nodes.  Is there is a command to delete the requisition from the database?

As you've only got a few nodes registered you can easily just do a 'SELECT * FROM node;' to see all nodes, and then you'll be able to see if, for example' it actually puts the foreignsource in lower case or something?

  I meant to say in my previous the <fs> is a placeholder for the name of the requisition in question but I guess you figured that out.

Please see my email from a short while ago about collecting some debug info. Have you edited the default foreign source at all - it would be evident if the file /etc/opennms/default-foreign-source.xml exists (it's only created if the defaults are changed).

When you import a requisition it is typically stored in an XML file like the SNMPv3.xml file you found, and then 'synchronised' with the Postgres database. My limited understanding was that this is typically a one-way sync from the XML to the database but I think you must be experiencing an issue whereby the database entries aren't dropped and are being used to repopulate the XML files.

It would be worth checking your Postgres configuration to ensure that OpenNMS has sufficient privileges to delete entries.

If these permissions are wrong, then when you delete your requisition it perhaps fails to delete the nodes from the database (the debug log should indicate this).

Make sure you have at least something like this in /etc/opennms/opennms-datasources.xml

                    user-name="opennms"

                    user-name="postgres"
                    password="POSTGRES_PASSWORD" />

If you really want to nuke the SNMPv3 requisition then you should be able to connect to postgres as above (with OpenNMS stopped) and do:

\c opennms
\x
SELECT * FROM node WHERE foreignsource LIKE 'SNMPv3'

Assuming the list of nodes is what you'd expect, you can delete them with:

DELETE from node WHERE foreignsource LIKE 'SNMPv3'

If they come back from the dead after deleting the XML and the DB entries then I'm stumped. However, you should not have to do this normally and my current suspicion lies with database permissions.

Hi Colin,

  I agree that what Ronny has suggested should work - However, if you're using any kind of automatic provisioning such as from VMWare ESXi or DNS (as would be configured in provisiond-configuration.xml) then deleted requisitions would be rediscovered every time the automatic provisioning runs until you disable it.

Assuming you just used the GUI to create a requisition and then add some hosts you should be able to get rid of it using Ronny's instructions. However as a last resort, you could stop the opennms service and delete /etc/import/<fs>.xml , /etc/import/pending/<fs>.xml , /etc/foreign-sources/<fs>.xml and /etc/foreign-sources/pending/<fs>.xml  (The 'pending' directories should be empty but I mention them in case they aren't)... Then when you restart OpenNMS the requisition should be complete gone.

Where to I find this synchronize?  Once I delete the requisition there is no option to synchronize.  Also after choosing the “remove all nodes”  the pop up says nodes have been removed and the requisition has been synchronized.


Why does the requisition keep re-appearing?  Along with the nodes?
