Re: How to provision device pairs with HSRP so the shared address(es) live on a separate node

My Squid proxies are not using HSRP but a flavor of CARP.  They look like this:

Node 1 is the primary Squid.
Node 2 is the secondary Squid.
Node 3 is the shared IP.  

Nodes 1 and 2 are in their own provisioning group, set up normally with all of the detectors.

Within the foreign source definition for the proxies, I have a policy to filter out the shared IP address.

(Go to your provisioning group, click "Edit Definition" then Policies.

Click on "Add Policy"

For Class:
Select "Match IP Interface"

For action:
Select "DO_NOT_PERSIST"

For matchBehavior:
Select  "ALL_PERAMETERS"

Click "Add Parameter"
Select "ipAddress"

In the Parameter Value field, enter the IP address you don't want to see.

ipAddress: 192.168.1.1

That effectively keeps the shared IP address off of the real hosts.

Then I have the same thing set in reverse for the provisioning group that handles the shared IP address.

Depending on how many IP addresses you're dealing with that might be a chore, but I think it does what you want.
