I have four provisioning requisitions. Two are harvested from our vSphere infrastructure using reqtool, filtered by some custom field values on the VMs and hosts (so one requisition for VMs, one for hosts). The other two are taken from a pair of text files, one for our storage platform (NetApp) and the other for 'generic' non-virtualised nodes that we still look after. The four are imported at 0600 each day.

The foreign source definition is different for each requisition, with the most detailed one having many service detectors for both Linux and Windows VMs.

I then have different poller packages, filtered on categoryName and/or IP Address.

Datacollection also has a small number of different packages, but with not so much differential.

In total, this morning that gives us exactly 500 nodes :)

Other approaches are available!

    organizations.  I know this is a bunch or art but I'd really appreciate 
    any wisdom people can offer on how to approach this.
