issues with opennms hanging

Hello,
I am new with opennms. I have installed and it was working. But now it hangs or is unresponsive. I try to restart the service and i am unable too. I have to restart the server itself in order for it to start working again but after a while it hangs again. the version that i have installed is 1.8.1. There are other applications running on the server like splunk and snort. I am not sure if running these apps along side opennms would be an issue but wanted to put it out there just in case.
