How to receive Traps

Hi all. I’m new in this world of SNMP and I’m trying to learn something
about this. For this, I have installed OpenNMS in my Ubuntu 10.04.

I have configured the discovery options of my network and the OpenNMS show
all the managed devices in the network but I only receive events like
“interface is up” and “interface is down”.

For test purposes, I have loaded the mib file of a environment monitor that
I have using the mib2opennms application. It seems that the upload was done
correctly because I can see the list of the new events added to the event
list in the “Admin/Configure Notifications/Configure Event Notifications/Add
New Event Notification” option in the WebUI. The environment monitor logs
say that the traps are sended to the SNMP server IP configured but I can’t
see any trap received in the OpenNMS WebUI.

If I type “netstat –na” in the ubuntu console I have the next output for
port 162:

UDP 0 0 0.0.0.0:162 0.0.0.0:*
-

I’m not sure but I think that In the last field should be “LISTEN” instead
of “-“ so I suspect that OpenNMS is not listening for traps.

Is this correct?. Should I configure something more in the OpenNMS WebUI to
receive the traps?.

Thank you very much for your help.

Rubén.
