OpenNMS scanning issues

I recently installed OpenNMS and have experienced 2 issues that have cast a shadow on potentially implementing this as our monitoring solution. 1. While scanning 2 separate tomcat instance on port 8080, it caused it to core dump. 2. While scanning 2 separate oracle 10g boxes it caused oracle to report ORA-00942 errors. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Is there a way to still monitor oracle and tomcat without causing the above issues?
