1) Could you be more specific about the trouble you had?

2) Why would you be backing up that file?  This is a file that PostgreSQL updates quite frequently for it’s internal statistics.  I seem to recall you can disable stats via postgresql.conf by setting “track_activities” to “off”.  I’m assuming the “trouble backing up the file” was a “file in use” error.

3) I also recommend researching that question in the PostgreSQL forums.
