There is also a bootstrap install script[2] which does all the stuff for you. Is there any reason you have to use the old CentOS 6 instead of 7?

We use CentOS 6. I'd love to move to 7, but it is what it is.
Oracle Java 8 is installed.
That bootstrap script assumes the database server should live on the
same host as OpenNMS. There are several reasons why that isn't
happening.
And I've followed the install guide. The only thing I'm unclear of is
exactly what 'runjava -s' is supposed to result in. The guide says that
"sets the Java environment", and what I get out of it is
${OPENNMS_HOME}/etc/java.conf says /usr/bin/java Not sure why we need
to go through such convolutions to find the java binary, unless there's
more to it that I'm just not seeing.
I think the real question is, exactly what the heck does "Could not
unmarshal
org.opennms.netmgt.config.opennmsDataSources.DataSourceConfiguration"
mean??? It sounds like it's unhappy with the config for the database,
or the connection to the database, or something similar. But why not
some kind of exception handling and a useful return? How do I find out
exactly what it's complaining about?
