I'm trying to connect to a remote Debian/Lenny server from a Debian/Squeeze desktop. I can do this from Windows XP using pptp so I'm confident the server is configured properly. I'm getting a "MPPE required, but MS-CHAP[v2] auth not performed." message. After turning on debug logging on the pon command, I find a sequence: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x9 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x62611f1e> <pcomp> <accomp>] rcvd [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <auth chap MS-v2> <magic 0xc2135820> <pcomp> <accomp>] No auth is possible sent [LCP ConfRej id=0x1 <auth chap MS-v2>] rcvd [LCP ConfAck id=0x9 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x62611f1e> <pcomp> <accomp>] rcvd [LCP ConfReq id=0x2 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xc2135820> <pcomp> <accomp>] sent [LCP ConfAck id=0x2 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xc2135820> <pcomp> <accomp>] sent [LCP EchoReq id=0x0 magic=0x62611f1e] MPPE required, but MS-CHAP[v2] auth not performed. sent [LCP TermReq id=0xa "MPPE required but not available"] rcvd [LCP EchoReq id=0x0 magic=0xc2135820] rcvd [LCP TermReq id=0x3 "peer refused to authenticate"] sent [LCP TermAck id=0x3] rcvd [LCP TermAck id=0xa] before getting disconnected. I believe the messages are showing a failure to negotiate an ms-chap v2 authentication. However, I'm not sure what is wrong. How do I get my workstation to accept ms-chap v2? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ThinkGeek and WIRED's GeekDad team up for the Ultimate GeekDad Father's Day Giveaway.
