Hi, I do administrate a dorm's network, with ~150 users, a low budget and L2 switchs. It goes without saying that we are way to much exposed to MITM attacks... Then the idea to secure the thing a bit more would be to put every user in a VPN. Since anything with more that 3 clicks to go would require a huge amount of time spent in user support, PPTP seems to be a good choice. At least it would fake being secure and avoid script kiddies... Now the question is : can we easily plug pptpd on our mysql user base ? (the passwords are BSD MD5). Each user has to register himself on a website at their first connection, and then to register each of its devices MAC address. The IP address is organized to have a subnet for each user. Bonus question : we'll be moving to IPv6 very soon, will pptpd handle it ? What if the user wants to use his own router ? (to get wifi for example, and remember there is no NAT in IPv6...)
