I agree.  Not a stupid question, but nothing to do with pptpd, since
pptpd is portable C and clearly already works fine compiled on MIPS or
ARM from the source.  I see no need for architecture specific build
instructions.

The source-howto.html is antique and should only be used if you plan to
build 1.1.3.

The Debian source packages contain the build instructions for Debian.

If you are using Linux, then learn how Debian (or Ubuntu) build pptpd,
by following their build instructions, and replicate that on your custom
platform.
