I agree. Not a stupid question, but nothing to do with pptpd, since pptpd is portable C and clearly already works fine compiled on MIPS or ARM from the source. I see no need for architecture specific build instructions. The source-howto.html is antique and should only be used if you plan to build 1.1.3. The Debian source packages contain the build instructions for Debian.
