Hi - we've recently moved from a super old Microsoft Windows 2000 VPN
server to poptop on ubuntu 10.04 and discovered that when some users
(Windows 7 / XP) vpn in they get internet access (they can use msn instant
messenger etc) and others can't.. However, all users are able to connect
to boxes on the lan when they have vpn'd in.

The old MS vpn server never exhibited this behaviour - everyone could
connect to everything.

All users with the problem are adamant they have set up a default VPN
connection and not done any default gateway / routing mods.

Are there any particular gotchas I should be aware of that produce this
sort of behaviour?

Apart from this list, my next step is to get one of the users to bring a
laptop in that has this behaviour and I'll connect it to a 3g dongle and
carry out the steps in

Any help appreciated :-)

- James
