LOL... I like James' elaborate rant better than what I was going to say; that's why we field consultants get the big bucks, cuz we figure out how to make this stuff work. :) <Quick story> I was out of town in a hotel a couple months ago, trying to PPTP VPN back to my place from the "free" hotel Internet connection. Of course it didn't work and naturally I knew why. Calling the front desk to ask about this stuff is like a trip to the Twilight Zone. I finally got in contact with the IT support company the hotel used and tried to explain why they should really allow GRE packets out of their network so I could VPN back to my office. Then we got into an explanation of the difference between an IP protocol and TCP/UDP port and my optimism level went way down. After a few minutes, he said he would get back to me. Of course, nobody called back. Fortunately for me, Verizon Wireless is still so far wide-open and I can PPTP back to my place that way. I've had lots of customers try to PPTP in from hotels with similar problems but this is the first time I've dealt with it myself. It's maddening that expensive hotels are so willfully careless. </Quick Story> - Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Master SQL Server Development, Administration, T-SQL, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS and more.
