pptp security

It was suggeste don a few sites that pptp was not the most secure VPN.
I guess it's never going to be as secure as certificates but is it  
reall an issue?
I found it interesting on the previous topic that a lot of hotels  
don't allow pptp even though most Windows computers use it by default  
but how is it going to suceed if most environments require an IT  
expert to help people get it past the router?
