I think "no route to host" is the key to your problem. You will find an
inbound ICMP packet which corresponds to that message, and indicates that a
router somewhere on the path from client to server could not send the
packet onwards because there was no suitable route. It probably indicates
an outage somewhere along the path. That's not an issue that the pptp
client or server can correct.
