[Proftpd-user] ldap bind occurs twice ?

Hello,

In http://bugs.proftpd.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4290 I've been suggested to
ask the mailing list rather than doing a report on the bugtracker. (my
first assumption was it is a bug, maybe it's not after all)

I have a configuration like:

LDAPServer ldaps://x.y.z/??sub
LDAPBindDN "cn=x,ou=y..." "thepass"
LDAPUsers ou=people,dc=... (uid=%u)

What I observe in my openldap logs is the bind (as inferred by
LDAPBindDN) is done *twice* before the bind as the login-in username
happen. Is it expected ? (doesn't look to).
