I've found, over the years, that many of the "warnings" logged at startup are often not seen.

And different sites/admins have different opinions on just what the "default" behavior should be -- based on their specific needs.  Whatever the default value is, would cause problems for someone.

The current behavior of using wildcard sockets has been the default for quite a while now; changing it would cause more issues than it would solve, I think.
