    Doesn't Gmail present you with a copy of the quoted text that you
could edit? I must confess that I only use my Gmail account to store
mail, and I don't remember if I ever replied a message from there :?

    Did you build it with "--with-nonroot" the first time? That
option causes lots of pain. I was bitten by it the first time I set
up a pure-ftpd server.

    Anyway, even if cygwin doesn't support UID's, you should be able
to log in as anonymous. AFAIK, that's a special account name. Just to
make sure: you didn't use the "-E" option, did you?

    I don't have pure-ftpd source at hand right now, so I don't know
if it considers "anonymous" an special account name or not. Anyway,
anonymous ftp access shouldn't mess with UID's and IMHO it should
work in cygwin.

    It's weird, really :( Looks like a bug, but I cannot reproduce
(and I don't have any cygwin in any Windows box right now to test).
