Pure-FTPd shows uids and gids instead of user- and groupname

Hi,

I'm using Pure-FTPd 1.0.20 on Debian Linux (via apt-get)
and Mac OS X 10.4.3, with chrooted system user accounts.
If a user logs in and makes a directory listing, only uids and gids are 
reported instead of user- and groupname, but I compiled it without 
"--without-usernames" option:

 >ftp dir
drwxr-xr-x    5 501      0             170 Sep 28 21:47 test

Without chroot, uids and gids are translated.
Is there a way to make this possible also in a chroot environment?
